Arsenal could launch bid to sign Premier League ‘leader’ in the next few days

Arsenal are still yet to see their first signing of the summer come through the doors in north London.

Edu Gaspar‘s efforts have been focused on attempting to bring in the Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori over the last week.

Arsenal have already agreed terms with Calafiori over a five-year deal to make the move to the Emirates.

However, the two clubs remain in talks over the fee needed to sign the 22-year-old defender.

As Arsenal continue to push to sign Calafiori, the north London club are also making an effort to bring in another player.

And it is now believed the Gunners could launch a fresh bid over the coming days.

Arsenal set to launch fresh bid for ‘leader’ in coming days

It has been a relatively slow start to the summer window for Mikel Arteta‘s side who are still yet to see any major arrivals or departures.

This summer’s European Championship and Copa America may have played a role in the slow start to the window.

But Arsenal’s impressive last two seasons may also indicate that not a huge deal of business is needed in north London.

However, it would seem the Gunners have their eyes on one specific player who they’re considering another go at bringing in.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are expected to launch a fresh bid for Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley in the coming days.

The north London side had a £50k bid for the English goalkeeper knocked back earlier this week.

Arsenal are said to be on the lookout for a homegrown third-choice goalkeeper this summer and it is believed Bentley is viewed as the perfect character for the role.

But their opening offer is believed to have been well short of what Wolves would even consider to sell their shot stopper.

Who is Dan Bentley?

The 30-year-old goalkeeper made the move to Molineux from Bristol City back in January 2023 and actually started his career off with Arsenal.

Bentley has only made nine appearances for Wolves which he would have to get used to in north London if he was to make the move with game time expected to be extremely limited as third-choice.

However, his character is said to be a good fit for the role in the report and he has been described as a ‘leader‘ by journalist Gregor MacGregor.

“When the decision time came that Dan was going to be the captain, I was happy for him because it suits him, he’s more vocal than me, he was organising stuff for the boys even before the captaincy. It suited his personality more, so why not?” Bentley’s former teammate Tomas Kalas said.
