Arsenal’s bid to sign a new left-back has prompted the club to look at Jordan Amavi, according to a report from Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb.
It was suggested in the report that Mikel Arteta wants to sign a backup to Kieran Tierney. Tierney has been outstanding this season. But the club lack natural options beyond the Scot.
Amavi is not a stranger to the Premier League having spent some time at Aston Villa earlier in his career. But Arsenal do have competition for his signature.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Napoli and AC Milan also want the 26-year-old.
It remains to be seen where Amavi ends up. But based on another report from earlier in the month, perhaps it may not be out of the question for Arsenal to inflict a double transfer blow on Napoli.
The Telegraph recently claimed that the Serie A side’s number one target is Tierney. In fact, it was reported that Napoli were prepared to sign a short-term option before making a future move for Tierney.
It would appear that Amavi may be that short-term option. But it seems that their hopes of signing Tierney could be described as ambitious at best.
Football London reported shortly after that the Gunners have no interest in selling Tierney. So it would appear that he is in line to stay at the Emirates for some time to come.
So if Amavi ends up at Arsenal, Arteta could boast both Napoli’s number one target as well as one of their potential alternatives.
