Arsenal are being linked with a move for Roma starlet, Justin Kluivert, and they might just be getting their hands on a player who takes a leaf out of Cristiano Ronaldo’s book.

The Sun claims that the Gunners could see Kluivert arrive, as Mino Raiola looks to negotiate a deal that would see Henrik Mkhitaryan go the other way to Rome.

It could prove to be quite the coup for Arsenal if they land Kluivert. Not mentioning his name – made famous through his father, Patrick – the youngster is a bright young talent with plenty still to prove.

After breaking through at Ajax, he has gone to Roma but has not quite gone on to hit the heights he’d have wanted.

Only one goal in his first season there, however, has been followed up with an improve seven this term. Indeed, barring a hamstring injury, Kluivert has been a regular starter for Paulo Fonseca’s men.

At 21, Kluivert has further room for improvement. And if his past comments on Cristiano Ronaldo are anything to go by, then Arsenal could be getting their hands on a determined individual.

The right attitude, talent will follow

Football teams need a mix of players to succeed. Obviously, talent can carry people and teams a long way. But as we’ve seen with the likes of Sheffield United this season, it can also be about work ethic and team ethos.

That’s why Kluivert might be the ideal capture for Arsenal at the moment. For many years they’ve had players who fans have questioned in terms of attitude and application. The Dutch youngster, however, told Four Four Two back in 2018 about how he modelled his approach on Cristiano Ronaldo.

“For me, Ronaldinho was a phenomenon. But away from the pitch, he was not a top professional. So now I prefer someone like Cristiano Ronaldo, who lives for his sport as well. That’s what I also try to do. Because what you show on the pitch also reflects on how much you are willing to sacrifice.”

It’s those sorts of comments that can often endear players to fans. Everyone knows about Cristiano’s desire within the game, regardless of the Messi/CR7 argument.

It seems, then, that the Gunners may be getting not just a talented individual but a hard-working example of a player if they do indeed capture Kluivert.
