Arsenal fans are yet to see William Saliba in competitive first-team action despite being on the Gunners’ books for three years.

However, the 21-year-old has returned to the Emirates Stadium as a much more experienced and well-rounded player.

Saliba has been on loan with Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille since making his £27million move in 2019.

During his time in Ligue 1, he has developed into a top player.

Saliba is the reigning Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year and made the Team of the Year following his efforts with Marseille last term.

And this season, it looks as though he will finally get his chance for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta’s strategy with Saliba may have proven controversial, but over the coming months we’ll see whether it has paid off.

Now, Arsenal could be about to repeat that same strategy with another new arrival at the club.

Back in January, the Gunners secured the signature of Auston Trusty from MLS outfit Colorado Rapids.

The 23-year-old has remained on loan with the Rapids, with his loan spell coming to an end on Sunday.

But instead of coming to Arsenal, Trusty will head to Birmingham City on loan, according to the Birmingham Mail.

“An incredibly hard worker”

“Auston’s development since he’s been with us has been incredible,” Rapids head coach Robin Fraser is quoted by the Birmingham Mail as saying.

“He took a while to get settled with us. But he took off when he started getting to grips with things.

“What makes this move so fitting is that he is an incredibly hard worker and he’s really driven.

“From the minute he got here, he knew what he wanted to do, he wanted to get himself overseas. I’m so thrilled for him.”

Trusty has made over 120 competitive appearances for Rapids and Philadelphia Union, and has been called up to the USMNT.

Obviously it’s a big jump between the MLS and the Premier League. But now Trusty will have the chance to acclimatise to the English game and develop further as a player.
