Arsenal could actually have a new signing sealed and completed in a matter of days.

The Gunners have been quiet in the transfer window this summer, with the signing of Tommy Setford from Ajax the only deal completed by Arsenal so far.

Now – however – another new signing could even be done by the weekend…

Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal could be finalised in days

Riccardo Calafiori has been in Arsenal‘s sights for weeks now.

The Gunners were forced to wait as Bologna and Basel discussed the details of the Italian’s sell-on clause, with the Swiss giants entitled to a large chunk of the profits after selling the defender in 2023.

Arsenal fans were also made to wait for progress in the Calafiori deal after Jakub Kiwior refused to be included as a makeweight in the move, opting against a switch to Bologna.

Now – however – all issues appear to have been resolved, and Arsenal could even announce the Italy international’s this weekend, according to Orazio Accomando.

The DAZN journalist wrote on X: “Calafiori – Arsenal, possible closure by the weekend. About €50m (£42m) to Bologna, bonuses included.”

Last season, the 22-year-old made 30 appearances in Serie A as Bologna qualified for the UEFA Champions League, scoring two goals while also providing five assists.

Italy international gives Mikel Arteta options

Calafiori’s versatility has surely been a huge point of attraction for Mikel Arteta, who – as we know from his use of Ben White – does not mind deploying a central defender out wide.

The Bologna No.33 has made 49 appearances as a left-back throughout his career, as well as 43 appearances in the centre of defence.

Therefore, Arteta can use him differently depending on the opponent, with Calafiori able to play as an inverted left-back who packs out the midfield, as well as a traditional centre-back.

At the age of just 22, the man from Rome is already playing to a very high standard, so he could potentially develop into a frightening footballer under Arteta’s guidance.
