Arsenal have completed the permanent signing of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid. The Gunners announced the capture early on Friday morning, with Odegaard unavailable for Sunday’s clash against Chelsea. Arsenal have confirmed a new number for Odegaard – and it is not no.11.
Odegaard, 22, clocked up 20 appearances while on loan at Arsenal during the second half of last season. Scoring two goals and creating two more, the Norwegian’s best moment came when he netted the winner in the North London derby. Now, he joins Arsenal on a permanent basis.
New number: Odegaard no longer wearing 11 at Arsenal
A fee is likely to be in the region of £34million with add-ons, as per The Athletic. It is unclear how long Odegaard has signed a new deal for, but given his age – it is likely to be a long-term one, potentially until 2026. Arsenal have now confirmed his new shirt number, and it isn’t 11.
Indeed, the Gunners have confirmed on their official website that Odegaard will wear the number eight shirt – vacated by Dani Ceballos. The Spaniard, of course, has returned to Real Madrid after a poor loan spell at the club. Odegaard’s second debut could be West Brom in the Cup next Wednesday.
