Report: Arsenal coaches are now unsure about signing ‘excellent’ £43m player this summer

Arsenal are on the hunt for a new striker this summer but contrary to reports, one man they might be avoiding is Italian forward, Gianluca Scamacca.

Reports recently have claimed Scamacca is on the radar of Mikel Arteta, who is keen to bring in a new striker, possibly two, this summer. Scamacca, who has done well in Italy with Sassuolo, is said to have emerged as an alternative target to the heavily-linked Gabriel Jesus.

However, according to a report from The Athletic today, Arsenal are not fully convinced when it comes to Scamacca.

The Athletic states how some of the Arsenal coaches hold reservations about the big striker. It’s claimed that while Scamacca is firmly in the budget of the Gunners, there are some doubts over his suitability and style when it comes to the current Arsenal squad. With that, it’s suggested any sort of move for Scamacca is on the back-burner until the club get a definitive answer on Gabriel Jesus.

Scamacca, who was once labelled as an ‘excellent professional’, hit 16 goals in Serie A last season. He has, however, failed to score for Italy in five caps so far.

It’s obvious that Arsenal want to sign Gabriel Jesus. But the mention of Arsenal’s coaching staff being unsure about Scamacca is interesting nonetheless.

He is, as the report says, a very different striker to those that are being looked at already. He is a bigger unit of a forward and perhaps doesn’t have the movement or guile of a Gabriel Jesus.

Of course, that’s not to say Scamacca wouldn’t succeed in England. He is only 23, and with time, could develop into one of the best in Europe. But Arsenal need someone ready in the here and now, so it’s easy to see where those doubts are coming from at London Colney.
