According to a recent report, a coach at Arsenal has made a recommendation to Mikel Arteta to sign a highly-rated player on the continent.

Mikel Arteta is closing in on his first signing of the summer as Italy and Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori is set to sign a five-year deal.

Now, attention will begin to turn towards other areas of the field, with Nico Williams viewed as a target outwide.

That said, The Gunners could also launch a proposal for another Spaniard based on recommendations from a goalkeeping coach.

Mikel Arteta urged to buy Joan Garcia

According to GiveMeSport, using information from Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal’s goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana is telling Arteta to buy Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, who has been labelled ‘promising’ per Arsenal Insider.

The 2001-born shot-stopper has been linked to The Gunners over the last few weeks and it now appears as though their interest is coming from Cana.

The coach previously recommended David Raya to the Arsenal boss and the club could follow his lead once more after a successful season for the former Brentford man.

Garcia, who is also of interest to Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, is thought to be available for a fee in the region of £21m this summer.

Joan Garcia would replace Aaron Ramsdale

If Arsenal do land Garcia’s signature this window, he’s expected to replace Aaron Ramsdale as the number two.

Ramsdale is of interest to Southampton, who are considering a bid, so he may well leave the club to become a number one elsewhere.

Arsenal are currently seen as the favourites for Garcia at this stage despite Madrid’s reported interest.

In other news, a journalist has said there’s a real chance Arsenal could could bid for ‘world class’ £100m player this summer
