Liverpool are interested in signing Real Betis star Junior Firpo – and Arsenal mustn’t let that happen.

As reported by Estadio Deportivo, the Reds have identified him as a possible option this summer, with Alberto Moreno having left on the expiry of his contract.

Firpo, 22, has been with Betis since 2014, and made his first-team debut in 2018.

The Dominican Republic-born defender has been capped by Spain at U21 level, and has been developing nicely over at Benito Villamarín.

Arsenal were linked with a move for Firpo in late 2018 (referenced by AS), and the Gunners ought to reignite their interest amid Liverpool’s reported interest.

TBR’s view

Liverpool want Firpo as backup for Andy Robertson, but Arsenal arguably need a new starting left-back.

With Unai Emery a fan of using three central defenders and wing-backs, the attacking Firpo would be ideal bombing forwards.

Sead Kolasinac has not entirely convinced so far at the Emirates, but perhaps he could be shifted inside to play at left centre-back given his physical advantages, with Nacho Monreal to be used sparingly in his final year.

Emery does not have a lot of money to spend this summer som some serious negotiating would be required to convince Betis into selling.
