Arsenal are reportedly lining up a £10.5 million move for Gremio defender Walter Kannemann (The Sun).
The Gunners are understood to be in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer.
Unai Emery’s side conceded a concerning 51 goals in the Premier League in 2018/19.
The north London giants apparently have only a small transfer budget to work with this summer, which perhaps goes some way to explaining the increasing links to Kannemann.
The Argentina is certainly a left-field target, with the 28-year-old having never before ventured outside of South America.
Were Arsenal to sign Kannemann this summer, then it could see them land a new version of a player Arsene Wenger signed in 2015.
Arsenal signed Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal for a very similar fee to what is being reported Kannemann could possibly join for (£11.2 million, BBC Sport).
The Brazilian spent only a couple of seasons at the Emirates Stadium, before joining Valencia in 2017.
Gabriel never really established himself as a regular starter under Wenger, but he is now flourishing in La Liga which has left a bitter taste for many Arsenal fans.
Perhaps Kannemann can be Gabriel’s direct replacement – the pair are very similar in a physical sense, and they also share similar play styles.
Kannemann is not aerially dominant, but is rugged in the tackle just as Gabriel showed himself to be during his brief stint at the club.
