Arsenal are reportedly interested in Chelsea defender Gary Cahill and his potential arrival would give them a boost to their chances of finishing inside the top four.
According to ESPN, the Gunners consider Cahill a short-term option for them to cope with the injury layout of Rob Holding.
The report details the 32-year-old is likely to leave Chelsea on loan in January after being told by Stamford Bridge officials he can move on.
Arsenal would certainly be pulling of a brilliant deal if they can convince their London rivals to offload the experienced English centre-back.
Unai Emery’s side would be obtaining a two-time Premier League title winner and Champions League winner in Cahill.
It would also weaken the centre-back options for rivals Chelsea, who they are in direct competition with for a spot in the top four of the Premier League.

Cahill is a no-nonsense defender that has still performed well for Chelsea in the Europa League this season and the Blues captain could offer a lot at the Emirates Stadium.
Emery certainly needs a new centre-back in the New Year to fill the void left by Holding and there are not many that have performed as consistently as Cahill in recent years in the top flight.
It seems a no-brainer that Arsenal snap up the £130,000-a-week (Spotrac) ace in January, but whether Chelsea would do business with them remains to be seen.
