Arsenal are ready to take on Watford today and there could be a place on the bench for one of the Gunners’ lesser known players or youngsters.

The injury to Takehiro Tomiyasu has left Arsenal short of options in some positions. Arteta, then, has been looking to his under-23s ranks to try and find a suitable back-up plan. And this week, that has seen him turn his attention to 21-year-old defender, Zak Swanson.

Pictured below in training for the Gunners this week, Football.London has reported that Swanson could be set to make the first-team squad today at Watford.

Who Is Arsenal Youngster Zak Swanson

Swanson has been with the Gunners for years and at 21, is one of the later developers it seems. Unlike Charlie Patino, who is already making an impression as a teenager, Swanson has had to bide his time a tad at Colney.

Mikel Arteta is expected to include Swanson today as he seeks cover for Tomiyasu. According to Arsenal coach Steve Bould, Swanson is more than capable and is consistent in his performances.

“Zak’s one of those players that plays at 7/10 every week and you know what you’re going to get from him and step by step he’s becoming a more polished player week in week out,” Bould is quoted as saying about Swanson.

Certainly, there is a chance for the youngster to make an impression today. Arsenal should have more than enough in the tank to see off Watford. And if the result is in the bag, then Swanson might well get that debut.
