Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is ready to call on Matteo Guendouzi again, after the pair reportedly had a bust-up in training.
The Telegraph reported on Tuesday that the French youngster was dropped from the matchday squad against Newcastle United on Sunday after he had a heated row with Arteta during the club’s winter break in Dubai.
Apparently the pair squabbled on the training pitch and it then continued into the team hotel later on.
Guendouzi lost his place in the side, with Dani Ceballos his replacement at St. James’ Park.
Some have been wondering how things are between the pair, and it would appear the episode has now blown over, with The Metro reporting he’s in contention to feature against Greek side Olympiacos on Thursday in the Europa League.
Lucas Torreira has been struggling with illness, meaning the 20-year0old may go straight into the starting XI.
TBR’s view – Guendouzi has a point to prove
Guendouzi has taken his punishment, now he must respond positively and show Arteta he’s worthy of being a regular starter.
It is the feeling of many Arsenal supporters right now that £40,000-a-week starlet Guendouzi (Spotrac) has been underperforming in recent weeks, so he’ll need a big performance in Athens, especially given this alleged bust-up with the manager.
Given how Dani Ceballos performed against Newcastle in his absence, the pressure is definitely on for the youngster.
