Tim Sherwood has lauded Mikel Arteta on talkSPORT and said that the Arsenal boss has absolutely answered any questions about his ability in the dug-out.

The Gunners have now put some daylight between themselves and the chasing pack in the Premier League. Their 1-0 win at Leeds on Sunday, followed by Manchester City’s loss at Liverpool, saw Arsenal open a four point gap at the summit.

Their victory felt significant because Arsenal came under huge pressure at Elland Road. It was a poor display, and yet, the Gunners managed to pick up the three points.

Certainly, if Arsenal go on and achieve something special this season, that victory at the weekend will be looked back upon as an important moment.

Sherwood has lauded the way Arsenal are finding different ways to win. And he suggested that Arteta has silenced all of his doubters with the way the Gunners have grown during his tenure.

“I think Arsenal have done brilliantly. I think Mikel’s been given the time there,” he told talkSPORT.

“Obviously, he’s won the FA Cup which helped him get the time after. People were asking questions about him. I think he’s answered those questions. I think he’s got a squad of players he wants now. One of the youngest teams in the league, playing attractive football.”

Arsenal fans must have feared that they would spend a lot longer in the wilderness. They seemed to be a club in disarray under Unai Emery and during some of Arteta’s tenure.

But Edu and Arteta stuck to their guns with what they wanted to do. And that strategy is now reaping rewards.

It is too soon to say whether Arsenal will be able to win the title from here. Manchester City and Tottenham are both lurking.

But one thing that is for certain is that the Gunners look transformed. Whatever happens this season, Arsenal are well on their way to being back amongst the Premier League heavyweights.

And Arteta deserves enormous credit for that progress.
