Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta delivers verdict on Gareth Bale as he nears Spurs return

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given his verdict on Gareth Bale ahead of his seemingly imminent return to Tottenham Hotspur on loan, in conversation with Football London.

As reported by Sky Sports, Bale completed a medical in Madrid on Thursday as he closes on a deal that will see him return to the club he left in a then world-record £86million transfer seven years ago.

The last update on Bale saw him arrive at Tottenham’s training ground after flying from Spain to complete his move back to North London from Real Madrid, an announcement surely a matter of time now.

Football London has also reported that Spurs will also have an option to extend the 31-year-old’s loan into the 2021-22 season if the move proves to be a success.

A player of Bale’s calibre joining Tottenham would appear bad news for Arsenal, but Arteta sees it as a positive from a league-wide perspective, the Welshman adding further quality to the competition.

“The Premier League in its history has always had the best players in the world,” the Spaniard told Football London.

“I think Gareth has been one of the most significant names that left the Premier League years ago to go to Spain, so I think it’s really positive to bring really important players back to the league and it will be a challenge because we know at his best what he can do.”

TBR View:

The football media spotlight has shone brightly on North London this past week, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finally signing a new contract at Arsenal, while now it looks as though Bale is on the verge of linking up with his former club.

Neither Arsenal nor Spurs had particularly great seasons in the Premier League last time out, but with the Arteta revolution gathering pace at N5 and Bale’s return to N17, it promises to be exciting for fans of both sides – not to mention even more intense derbies.
