Arsenal boss Arteta could unleash the 'Gilberto Silva regen' tonight, fans should be buzzing - TBR View
The mood around Arsenal has improved massively in recent weeks following two clean-sheet Premier League wins in a row.
Now, the Gunners will be in League Cup action tonight in a game where Mikel Arteta could look to shuffle his pack.
Arsenal host AFC Wimbledon at the Emirates Stadium tonight in a 7:45pm kickoff.
The North Londoners have done fairly well in cup competitions in recent years, and the League Cup could prove a realistic trophy to go for.
At the same time, with Arsenal in action against Spurs this weekend, there’s certainly scope to name talented youngsters in the matchday squad.
One name who Gunners fans would love to see – and who could certainly make an appearance – is Charlie Patino.
The 17-year-old midfielder is one of many academy talents tipped for stardom in the coming years.
Gunners coaches reportedly rate the Hale End gem – who is already playing for Arsenal’s Under-23s – very highly.
Known for his technical ability and agility in midfield, Patino has often played for higher age groups.
As a 14-year-old, he captained England’s Under-16s against Spain and made his debut for Arsenal’s Under-18s against Chelsea.
Last season, Patino earned promotion to the Under-23s – quite a feat considering his age – and made four appearances.
This season, he’s featuring regularly for the Under-23s, and surely a senior debut is not far away.
Charles Watts said of Patino following his appearance in the Brentford friendly: “I understand he made a big impression on some of his senior teammates.”
And Arsenal fans have waxed lyrical about him in recent months, comparing him to some top, top players:
Patino is the @GilbertoSilva regen 😍😍😍— 𝗔𝗙𝗖 𝗠ö𝗡𝗧𝗬™ (@Monty_Official_) June 8, 2021
Charlie Patino reminds me of Redondo, De Jong of Barca and Wilshere all in one. Fantastic player— BFA (@FlertBFA) September 20, 2021
Patino reminds me a lot of Cesc Fabregas for some reason. He’s a unique talent though that’s for sure— KB (@FootyKB) September 20, 2021
Patino reminds me of pirlo, but modernized— Nick Mclendon (@DiazElano) September 17, 2021
Loved the discussion as normal. On Patino’s potential just dont know if he is physical enough for epl, his skill set reminds me alot of smith-rowe and merson, but needs to beef up just a tad. @gunnerblog— Jack Robinson (@kingArsenejr) September 13, 2021
