Arsenal has been handed a boost in their protracted pursuit of Crystal Palace winger, Wilfried Zaha, with the Eagles apparently eyeing Gerard Deulofeu as a potential replacement.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for Zaha over the past few months. The Daily Mail claimed last month that Mikel Arteta was keen on signing Zaha, while back in March, the Sun claimed Arsenal were interested.
And continuing on from that interest, the Gunners will be buoyed by news that Palace has their eye on Watford winger Deulofeu, according to The Standard.
The Spaniard could leave the Hornets this summer after scoring four and laying on another five in a season that saw the club relegated back to the Championship.
Watford is expected to look to move a number of players on, with Deulofeu one of the top earners at Vicarage Road.
Roy Hodgson, then, could well see the 26-year-old as the ideal player to step into the fold if Zaha does eventually move away from Selhurst Park.
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold had previously claimed Zaha was harder to face than Neymar and Ronaldo, highlighting the Palace star’s talent.
Things falling into place for Arsenal but a big bid will still be needed – TBR View
Arsenal are being linked with so many players that it’s hard to see who exactly is going to end up arriving at the club.
However, if they are serious about Zaha, then this is a boost for Mikel Arteta and Edu. Given that Palace seems to be eyeing up replacements for Zaha, it suggests they are resigned to losing him.
But, you would assume a massive bid will still be needed. Palace has long insisted they won’t sell their key man for cheap, so unless Arteta raises some quick funds, this one could well go on into the summer.
