Arsenal fans could be about to see Mikel Arteta deploy a new number nine for the rest of the season in the form of Brazilian youngster, Gabriel Martinelli.
The Gunners are desperate to bring a new striker in. They failed to land any of their main targets in the January window and will now look to the summer to get their man. A number of names, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Alexander Isak, and more recently, Armando Broja, have all been mentioned as potential signings.
With Alex Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah both yet to sign new deals with the club, there could well be a gaping hole in the Gunners’ attack next season. However, according to Football.London, work is already underway with Martinelli to try and convert the young Brazilian into more of a number nine.

So far, Martinelli has played off the left when given his chance. However, with such a potential shortage in striking options, the ‘very talented’ Martinelli could now get a new role. Certainly, it’s not something some Arsenal fans would be averse to happening.
Martinelli has scored four goals for the Gunners this season. He was, however, sent off at Wolves last week and will miss the next fixture.
TBR’s View: Martinelli Has The Talent To Be Arsenal Numbers Nine
In terms of having all the tools to succeed in that role, you’d have to say Martinelli has the potential to do so.
He has speed, power for someone so slight, and when in goal, he can finish as well. Of course, Arsenal probably need someone with a real presence in the squad. But if they do have to use Martinelli in that role, then it won’t be the end of the world.
Martinelli has shown he is more than capable at Premier League level already. With further development like this, he’ll only get better and better.
