‘Arsenal are still hopeful’: Romano posts update on 2020 Arteta signing, ‘he wants to leave’
Arsenal remain confident that they will be able to sell Willian before the closure of the summer transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, ‘Arsenal are still hopeful’ that they can offload the Brazilian attacker this month. Mikel Arteta signed Willian last year after the winger was released by Chelsea.
Fabrizio Romano also noted that Willian ‘wants to leave’ Arsenal this window, and has wanted to since May.
The 32-year-old forward scored just one goal for the Gunners last campaign. The north London side finished eighth in the Premier League table.
Willian is just one of many players the Gunners are hoping to offload in the coming weeks. As per Fabrizio Romano, Hector Bellerin and Lucas Torreira can leave both London.
Football London also report that Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac could also depart.
With two weeks of the window left, though, it is unlikely that the Gunners will sell any more players.
Indeed, Arsenal have an infamous reputation amongst fans of struggling to offload senior members of the first team.
So far, this summer has just seen Joe Willock depart. The 21-year-old midfielder left for Newcastle United in a £20m deal according to BBC Sport.
But with Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale close to joining, Arsenal will likely have to push some players out of the door before the August 31st deadline.
