Arsenal and Manchester United are both looking for a new central midfield player this summer.
The Gunners need to find a partner for Declan Rice, while United need to get someone in to replace Casemiro after a disastrous season.
As you may imagine, the two clubs’ needs has led to the English giants largely fishing in the same sort of ponds this summer.
Indeed, United and Arsenal have been linked with a number of the same targets heading into this summer, and one player both teams are said to be keen on is Joao Neves.
Speaking on mufcMPB’s YouTube channel, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Joao Neves’ future, and, interestingly he says that he’s been told Arsenal are more serious about signing the £105m man than United right now.

Arsenal more serious contenders for Joao Neves
Jacobs shared what he’s heard about Neves and his links to the Premier League.
“No, I think there could be a possibility for Joao Neves, but I’m told more Arsenal than Manchester United are the club that have seriously looked.
“The big money coming out of Portugal doesn’t tally with what Manchester United have right now to be in a position to place a formal bid, so again, I’m not going to discount the reporting of others, but I’ve not heard anything too concrete or advanced at this stage.”
Both moves make sense
This is a situation in a two-way transfer battle where both moves ultimately make sense.
Neves could join Arsenal as they’re a team on the up looking for a sitting midfield player, while Manchester United are a viable option as one of the biggest clubs in the world with new minority owners who are looking to make a splash.
Factor in that there’s a decent Portuguese-speaking contingent at both clubs, and it’s easy to see how Neves would fit into either of these sides.
Neves could be on the move this summer, and this is certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
