Arsenal are insisting on trying to bring ‘incredible’ £86m striker to the Emirates

Arsenal are desperate to sign a highly-rated striker on the continent this summer transfer window.

The Gunners are about to make their first signing of the window in Bologna and Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori.

Once completed, attention is expected to turn towards a midfielder, a winger and indeed a striker, which is evidently the weakest area of Mikel Arteta’s side.

That said, it’s claimed they’re insistent on signing a prolific number nine who flourished in Portugal last season.

Arsenal insistent on signing Viktor Gyokeres

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, via The Standard, Arsenal are insistent on signing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The North Londoners have been linked with Gyokeres all summer with reports even suggesting that a bid had been made.

It remains to be seen if that’s the case but evidently, the 26-year-old is a player high up on the club’s transfer shortlist.

The ‘incredible’ forward, per GOAL, is thought to have an £86m release clause in his contract, though, Arsenal will be keen to land his signature for much less than that figure.

Viktor Gyokeres statistics

Gyokerers enjoyed a phenomenal season in Portugal last term, netting a whopping 43 times whilst laying on 15 assists, taking his total goal involvements to a staggering 58.

The Sweden international is an imposing number nine and would operate as the focal point in Arteta’s system if he were to sign.

Alternative striking targets include Brian Brobbey and potentially Ivan Toney, who’s price tag has been slashed to around £40m.

Arsenal might not even move for a striker this window if they land Nico Williams, for instance, who’ll cost a substantial wedge of around £47m.

In other news, a £20m Arsenal player has agreed to join Inter Milan this summer.
