Arsenal are hoping to land Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera on a free transfer this summer, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
The 29-year-old will see his contract at Old Trafford expire in the summer and the Gunners are hoping to lure the Spaniard to the Emirates.
The competition will be fierce for the Gunners, however.
For starters, United do hope to agree on an extension with Herrera, as per the Daily Mail, whilst PSG are also keen.
If Arsenal can land Herrera he would represent a sound replacement for Aaron Ramsey.
The Welshman will leave the Gunners this summer to move to Italian giants Juventus.
Ramsey’s departure will leave Unai Emery with a big void to fill in the middle of the park.
The current United man earns £80k-a-week at Old Trafford and the Daily Mail piece suggests he is looking for more money now he has become an established member of the first-team.
The fact that he wouldn’t command a fee, however, could entice the Gunners into paying him a more substantial salary.
Herrera has played 25 times for United this season and it would represent a real blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if one of his regular performers was to sign for a rival.
United’s loss would be Arsenal’s gain, however and Emery should press ahead to land this perfect Ramsey replacement.
