Arsenal and Rangers defenders David Luiz and James Tavernier have both been included in the official Europa League Team of the Week, while on-loan Tottenham Hotspur star Juan Foyth has also been named – after a debut to remember for Villarreal.
Arsenal came from behind to beat Rapid Vienna and while the Gunners were somewhat shaky defensively, Brazilian veteran Luiz was at the heart of anything good they did. He also scored in the 2-1 win, heading home a Nicolas Pepe free-kick.
Meanwhile, captain Tavernier helped his Rangers side get off to a flying start with a 2-0 win over Standard Liege in Belgium. The skipper is in the form of his life, according to Gordon Strachan, and scored his ninth of the season from the penalty spot.
Meanwhile, Foyth made his debut for Villarreal after joining them on loan from Tottenham and the Argentina international not only scored a well-placed header – but laid on an excellent assist for Paco Alcacer in a 5-3 win over Turkish side Sivasspor.

TBR’s view – What are Arsenal and Rangers’ chances?
Rangers reached the last 16 of the competition last season, which saw them have to make the strange trip to Germany to play their second-leg tie against Bayer Leverkusen – which they eventually lost.
This time around, anything on that level will be considered a major success – especially as a lot of their focus will be stopping Celtic from reaching 10 in a row. Arsenal, meanwhile, have got to be considered favourites.
However, their performance against Rapid Vienna was questionable and Mikel Arteta will need to change a few things if he is to improve the Gunners’ chances of lifting Europa League silverware come May.
