- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Such has been the progress of Arsenal of late, the Gunners are now rivalling Manchester City both on the pitch and in the transfer market.
Man City were thought to be interested in Kai Havertz and Declan Rice in the summer in which Arsenal signed the pair.
Given the elite status of both clubs, it probably shouldn’t be a surprise that they are both overlapping with their targets, two teams with very similar foundations.
That being said, TBR Football understands that both clubs are now among those following AZ Alkmaar starlet Ruben van Bommel.
Arsenal and Man City are following Ruben van Bommel’s progress at AZ Alkmaar
20-year-old Van Bommel is son of Dutch legend Mark, who was a world-class defensive midfielder in his day, a prickly character on the football pitch.
Unlike his father, Ruben is a left-winger, an exceptional young talent who likes to cut inside onto his right foot.

Van Bommel is attracting interest from a host of English clubs right now following an impressive start to the season in the Netherlands.
In his last four games alone, the winger has scored four goals and registered two assists – performances that are being noticed.
Arsenal, Man City and Newcastle United are among those following Van Bommel’s progress right now, who is shining in the Europa League.
Premier League sides have had Van Bommel on their radar for a couple of years now, but their respective interest has intensified this season.
Van Bommel, who has made 10 appearances for the Netherlands’ under-21 side scoring four goals, has a contract with AZ until 2027.
Van Bommel hailed for his speed and told he could become a centre-forward
Pierre van Hooijdonk, a pundit who amassed 46 for the Netherlands over his career, recently shared an exciting verdict on Van Bommel’s progress when speaking via sportnieuws.
Van Hooijdonk was speaking after the winger scored two goals against Ajax in February and said: “He’s just an incredibly good player.
“I think he’ll end up as a centre forward. He’s a master of everything; he’s fast, has finesse in his finishing.
“Last year in the KKD at MVV I saw him score a lot of goals. There were chips, shots and headers among them.
“He’s still very young and is still developing. He’ll continue to do that from the left for a while, but I think he’ll eventually move to the centre.”
Exciting comments, and it’s therefore clear why some of the best Premier League sides are considering a move.
