Arsenal and Mikel Arteta could well be left to rue the decision to not pursue a move for German striker, Kevin Volland.
Reports on Friday emerged to suggest that Arteta called off scouting of Volland when he took over the club.

The German hotshot was apparently on the radar of the Gunners, with former manager, Unai Emery, a keen admirer of the forward.
However, Arteta’s appointment cancelled those plans. The Mirror claim that the Spanish coach insisted other areas of the squad were more important. Ultimately, no move for Volland was followed up during January.
But with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looking certain to leave and Arsenal having little in the way of proven goalscorers, it looks like the club might have missed a trick.
Goals and assists from Volland
Replacing Aubameyang is going to be a massive ask for the club. Last season’s joint golden boot winner has been in excellent form once again this term.
It goes without saying, then, that replacing his goals is a big ask. However, in Kevin Volland, Arsenal would have got someone who could at least have given it a good go.

Prior to sustaining an injury in February, Volland had scored nine and laid on a further eight for Leverkusen. That form is no fluke, either. Volland also registered double figures in both columns last season.
It’s clear to see, that the German star is an attacking threat. It is even clearer, then, that Arsenal might have dropped a clanger with letting him slip through their grasp.
