Theo Walcott has a big part to play over the coming weeks

The one player who couldn’t be accused of shying away from responsibility in the first half was Theo Walcott. He was looking to make things happen for his side when many others simply weren’t at their best. The England international delivered a similarly professional performance against Sutton United in the last round and he deserves tremendous credit for how he approaches every match with the right attitude, regardless of the opposition. He opened the scoring today and relieved the growing pressure on his side.

Arsenal face a battle to qualify for the Champions League this season and they will need to have the right characters on the pitch. Their mentality has been criticised frequently in the media, but Walcott is one of the few to stand up on the pitch when he is called upon. Although he hasn’t always been first choice at the club, he has earned a sustained run in the team until the end of the season. The Gunners need to have players on the pitch that won’t be fazed by the pressure and Walcott is one they can rely on.
