Jordan McEneff has posted on Instagram to confirm he has signed a new contract with Arsenal, with his previous likely to be expring in the summer – and plenty of teammates have responded, as has Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour.
The 20-year-old midfielder has failed to feature for Arsenal at under-23 level since October. Starting against Liverpool in Premier League 2 Division 1, McEneff was removed from the field of play after five minutes with an injury and is yet to return.
He signed his last contract in 2018, but as is the norm, first professional contracts do not exceed three years. It means that come the end of June, his contract might well have expired. An Ireland youth international, Arsenal clearly see potential there.
The midfielder – who has clocked up 25 appearances for the club’s second string – has now signed a new contract which the player confirmed himself on Instagram. There is no confirmation as of yet from the club itself.
McEneff will be desperate to feature for Arsenal’s under-23 side before the end of the season, and then when the summer window comes around – the Irishman may have to consider going out on loan, given he is now one of the elder players in the reserves.
Plenty responded to his post, including the likes of Omari Hutchinson, Zach Medley and Nikolaj Moller. Sam Greenwood, who left Arsenal for Leeds last summer, and Chelsea’s Gilmour, also commented – congratulating the young Gunners ace.
