Celtic could be in the market for new central defenders in the summer transfer window with two of their current options looking destined for the exit door.
Filip Benkovic is on a season-long loan from Leicester City and Celtic’s hopes of keeping him have been damaged by Brendan Rodgers taking over at The King Power Stadium.
The ex-Celtic boss is a big fan of the towering Croatian centre-half and is probably planning to use him at Leicester next season.
And Celtic could also lose Dedryck Boyata. The Belgium international is out of contract at the end of the season and has shown no interest in extending his ties with the Scottish champions.
Therefore, the Bhoys are likely to be looking for two new centre-backs. And they have recently been linked with Barnsley’s Liam Lindsay (The Mirror via Birmingham Live).
Celtic are among the clubs keen on the £5m-rated defender, who could be an ideal short-term and long-term option at Celtic Park.
The former Partick Thistle defender was Barnsley’s shining light in the Championship last season as they were relegated and he has continued his fine form in League One this season.
With nearly 100 games in England under his belt, along with more than 70 games for Partick, Lindsay is the perfect blend of youth and experience.
The 23-year-old is strong aerially and with the ball on the ground and he could be the long-term answer for both Celtic and Scotland at centre-back.
