Trent Alexander-Arnold has caused a mini stir ahead of Liverpool v Manchester City this weekend.

The Liverpool right-back has sparked even more life into the weekend clash by suggesting the trophies Liverpool have won mean more than City’s to supporters.

In an interview with FourFourTwo, Trent said the following.

”Looking back on this era, although they’ve won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially. How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we’ve done it, probably means more to our fans.”

The comments have been picked up on by numerous media outlets and pundits.

And while admitting he didn’t want to get into things too much, Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker has said that the comments have found their way into City’s changing room.

“Nah nah, I’m not even getting into that, not even getting into it. It’s been floating around the changing room today, yeah,” Walker said on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE show.

Kyle Walker doesn’t need to respond to Trent Alexander-Arnold

A lot has been made of this and it’s created another talking point ahead of a huge game. But the fact is, Walker doesn’t need to respond.

The success he’s had at City speaks for itself and while Trent can have his own views on things, it doesn’t take away any of the trophies Walker has won at City.

Of course, comments like this are always going to find their way into a dressing room and there’s no doubt City will be motivated by what’s been said.

But under Pep Guardiola, City don’t need any extra motivation and that much will be clear on Sunday.

Of course, if City win, then fingers will be pointed at Trent. But really, it won’t make too much difference.
