Trent Alexander-Arnold has long been one of the best players in the Premier League.
The defender is a Champions League and Premier League winner, and his contributions from right-back have been invaluable for Liverpool over the years.
However, there has long been one flaw in Alexander-Arnold’s game that has been pointed out.
Indeed, many have claimed over the years that Alexander-Arnold isn’t good enough defensively.
However, that view is changing.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Glenn Murray has been discussing Alexander-Arnold’s defensive abilities, and he’s claimed that the England international has got better in one vs one situations in Arne Slot’s new system as he’s not moving into midfield as often nowadays.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has improved defensively
Murray shared his verdict on Alexander-Arnold’s defensive abilities this season.
Liverpool have conceded just three goals so far this term, and Alexander-Arnold has played a big part in that.
Murray believes Slot’s tactics really suit Alexander-Arnold, and he says he has improved defensively.
“From that I feel as though Trent Alexander-Arnold’s one on one defending has been better. He’s not always trying to get back into position, he’s sat back looking out and that suits him much more,” Murray said.
Alexander-Arnold’s defending was criticised
It’s great to hear Alexander-Arnold get some praise for his defensive ability, because, for so long, he was unfairly criticised for this element of his game.
Indeed, many pundits picked this as a flaw in the full-back’s game, and even Roy Keane stated that Alexander-Arnold’s defensive ability was poor.
“I can’t believe how bad he is at defending. For a guy who has played a lot of games, it’s like he has never played the position before,” Keane said.
“It’s amazing how many people just run past him. In possession he’s brilliant.”
Gary Lineker even claimed that Alexander-Arnold should be converted into a midfield role at one point.
Now, Liverpool have the stingiest defence in the entire Premier League, letting in just three goals in eight games, and Alexander-Arnold has silenced many of his critics in this new system.
The full-back is not only one of the best creative forces in England, he’s also a top class defensive player.
