Arne Slot says another Liverpool star made a big mistake vs Man United along with Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold has come under a lot of criticism since his performance in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

The Englishman was nowhere near his best against the Red Devils. He was all over the place defensively and wasn’t at his usual best in the opposite direction either.

Virgil van Dijk was furious with Alexander-Arnold on the pitch, while several pundits including Roy Keane and Gary Neville slammed the Liverpool right-back for his display.

Arne Slot has now had his say, and he has named another Liverpool player who made a mistake against United.

Arne Slot explains the mistake Alexis Mac Allister made during Liverpool vs Man United

Alexis Mac Allister has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season.

The Argentine was mostly good in his debut campaign under Jurgen Klopp as well, but he has taken his game to a whole new level under Slot.

Even against Manchester United, Mac Allister was Liverpool’s best player according to many Reds fans, but Slot saw something that he didn’t like.

While speaking about his private conversations with players where he corrects their mistakes, Slot claimed that Mac Allister made a big error against United.

He claimed that the Argentine could’ve stopped Amad Diallo from scoring his goal if he had just started running a little faster.

Looking back at the goal, Slot is right – Mac Allister just jogged back instead of sprinting, and that allowed Diallo all the time and space in the world to find the net.

While speaking about Alexander-Arnold’s poor game, Slot said, as per Liverpool’s official website: “It is normal you talk to players always; in this situation, it wasn’t his best game, so there were things I had to show which he has to improve.

“That’s what you always do after every game. Sometimes you show how well they did, mostly when it comes to work rate – you don’t have to show a brilliant 80-yard pass because that they know. Sometimes you have to show them what they can improve, but I did not only do this with Trent.

“We were just talking about Macca and I think if you look at the second goal we conceded with the cut-back cross, if he sprints a bit harder he could prevent the shot from [Amad] Diallo as well.

“So, there are always things you can improve, but in general they’ve worked really hard and gave everything to get a result. Unfortunately, we were unable to get the best result but we still got a result.”

Mac Allister will have a big role to play vs Tottenham

Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup semi-final first-leg on Wednesday night.

The Reds will go into the game as the absolute favourites having already smashed six past Spurs in the Premier League just over two weeks ago.

Mac Allister scored in that game and was really good, and he will have a big role to play when the two sides meet again.

Tottenham will offer a lot of space to Mac Allister because of how they play. That will allow the Argentine all the time he’ll need to make the right decision in the final third.

With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo in front of him, all Mac Allister has to do is find the right pass to one of them.

As long as he and his midfield partners can do that regularly, Liverpool will win the game.
