Arne Slot endured a night to forget during Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat against Galatasaray.
Victor Osimhen’s first-half penalty condemned his side to a second consecutive loss, following on from the weekend’s last-gasp setback at the hands of Crystal Palace.
Arne Slot’s tactical gambles backfired in Istanbul and his team selection raised eyebrows ahead of kick-off.
Jeremie Frimpong started on the right wing, leaving Dominik Szoboszlai in defence again, and the makeshift right-back gave away the spot-kick which led to the game’s only goal.
But it is another of the manager’s decisions from several months ago that may well bother him the most.

Liverpool should have moved for Victor Osimhen
A number of the world’s biggest clubs are understood to have been keen to sign Osimhen from Napoli during the summer, but he eventually re-joined Galatasaray.
The striker had spent last season on loan at the Turkish club and despite the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham being linked, a £65million deal was wrapped up to keep him at the RAMS Park.
TBR Football previously reported that Manchester United were interested in Osimhen. He is even believed to have favoured a move to the Premier League, which ultimately did not materialise.
Liverpool were also among the names said to have been in the race, but they instead focused on other targets, bringing in Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak as part of a remarkable summer splurge.
Ekitike has hit the ground running at Anfield, while Isak will require more patience, having joined from Newcastle desperately short on match sharpness.
Osimhen, however, is a known quantity and is equipped with all of the attributes to become a success in the Premier League. Liverpool’s failure to land him could prove costly, especially if Ekitike and £125million man Isak are unable to have the desired impact.

Victor Osimhen bullied Liverpool for Galatasaray
Osimhen was the best player on the pitch on Tuesday night, and he constantly got the better of both Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk, which is no mean feat.
He was deservedly named the man of the match, with his superb all-round display perfectly encapsulated by the cool spot-kick that decided the game.
A constant threat, Osimhen timed his runs to perfection, relieved pressure by holding the ball up and took up dangerous positions in and around the Liverpool penalty area.
It is a crying shame that he was not able to secure his big Premier League move during the summer, but if he keeps up his performance levels, it should only be a matter of time before that changes.
