Arne Slot admits the problem Curtis Jones had when he first took over as Liverpool manager

Curtis Jones has been one of the most-improved players under Arne Slot at Liverpool this season.

Indeed, Jones has earned huge praise at Anfield this term as he’s come into his own in the midfield.

The midfielder has earned his first England caps off the back of his good performances this season, and Jones is really enjoying working with Slot.

However, things weren’t always easy between the coach and the player.

Indeed, speaking to FootballJOE, Slot has been discussing Jones’ development, and he says there’s something he really struggled with when he joined Liverpool.

Arne Slot struggled with Curtis Jones

Slot spoke about Jones as a player.

The manager says that he really likes the midfielder, but when he joined the club, he struggled with how many touches of the ball Jones would take.

Slot says that he’s taught Jones to play in a much more simple manner, and, in turn, that has made the Liverpool ace a more effective player.

“He enjoys to play football everyday, always with a smile. He always wants the ball. We had a struggle together. In my opinion he touched the ball too much, but now he plays more simple, and that makes him more effective in what he does,” Slot said.

“Good work rate, good person as well, good player, he always wants the ball and he’s so comfortable when he has it. I think that’s what makes him an all-round midfielder at the moment for us and for England as well.”

Which other Liverpool players have improved under Arne Slot?

Slot has helped Jones improve as a player, and that’s led to an England call-up, but which other players have improved under Slot?

Ryan Gravenberch has transformed as a player this season.

Gravenberch has gone from being a fringe player at Anfield to one of the Reds’ most important players in that holding midfield role.

Gravenberch has even been compared to Patrick Vieira this season.

Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate has improved a lot this season too.

Most of Liverpool’s players have improved this season. Mohamed Salah has been consistently world-class for years, but he’s perhaps playing his best football right now – Salah has been tipped for the Ballon d’Or already this season.

Meanwhile, Luis Diaz has started playing as a number nine as of late, a tactical switch by Slot that has been praised too.

Slot has barely put a foot wrong since becoming Liverpool manager, and, who knows? Maybe he will lead the Reds to their second Premier League title this season.
