Liverpool had to settle for a 3-3 draw against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
The Reds have had a flying start to the season. They went into the game nine points ahead of Arsenal in the table, but that gap has now reduced by two.
Liverpool were nowhere near their best in the first half and were deservedly a goal down at the break.
Arne Slot’s side were a lot better in the second half and levelled the game very quickly, but both sides scored two more and had to settle for a 3-3 draw.
Arne Slot shares what he thought about Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah vs Newcastle United
Mohamed Salah has been Liverpool’s best player this season.
The Egyptian has had a stunning start to the new campaign, and he showed his class once again at St James’ Park on Wednesday night.
Salah scored twice and assisted the other Liverpool goal to help his side secure a point. It was a stunning display from the winger.
Slot hailed the Reds’ number 11 for his second-half display, but he also suggested that Salah was not at his usual level before the break.
In his press conference after the game, Slot said, as per Liverpool’s official website: “It is difficult for me to predict the long-term future, the only thing I can expect or predict is he is a very good place at the moment.
“He plays in a very good team that provides him with good opportunities and then he is able to do special things.
“What makes him even more special for me is before we scored for 1-1 you thought, ‘He is not playing his best game today,’ but then to come up with a half-hour with an assist, two goals, having a shot against the bar and being a constant threat, that is something not many players can do if they’ve played the first hour like he did.
“So, that is also what makes him special, apart from if you just look at the goals. His finishing is so clinical. A special player, but that’s what we all know.”

Liverpool have to do one thing with Salah ASAP
Salah’s contribution against Newcastle takes his figures up to 15 goals and 12 assists in just 21 appearances in all competitions this season.
That is an outrageous return for a wide player, and that should send a strong message to the decision-makers at Anfield.
Salah is open to staying at Liverpool, but the Reds are yet to offer him a new deal. That has led to a few public comments from the attacker in recent weeks.
We don’t know what FSG’s plans are, but after seeing Salah’s numbers since the start of this season, we think it would be silly to let him walk away for nothing.
Liverpool should offer a new contract to Salah as soon as possible.
