Former Charlton Athletic player and manager Chris Powell has echoed the recent thoughts of Lee Bowyer over Joe Aribo’s move to Rangers.
Aribo completed his £300,000 switch to Ibrox last month (BBC Sport), and was slammed for it by current Addicks boss Bowyer.
He felt that a move to another Championship side would have been better for the youngster’s development.
In the eyes of Powell, Aribo would have been better served staying in England.
He told News Shopper: “He’ll do well in Scotland for sure. He’s got the talent but I’m not too sure he should’ve gone, in my personal opinion.
“I think he should’ve stayed at Charlton or maybe looked at one or two other options but it’s his decision.
“I think for a player like him to be playing at Championship level, I think he would’ve alerted a lot more teams.”
The Championship is a great division in which young players can develop.
But the Scottish Premiership has also proven a fantastic environment for young players.
The main thing for Aribo is that he gets regular game time at Ibrox, as he is a very talented midfielder.
Bowyer and Powell are clearly just a bit stung by a precocious talent such as Aribo leaving the football club, as they should be.
