Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has worrying injury update on Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister who is ‘in pain’

Arne Slot will be desperate go get through the international break with all his players intact after the strong start his side have made to the season.

With the Champions League starting soon, Arne Slot won’t want to lose any of his key players.

Liverpool will face the tough challenge of Nottingham Forest up next in the Premier League, followed by an away trip to the San Siro to face AC Milan in Europe.

We’re now getting into the point of the season where having squad depth and the ability to rotate is vitally important, with the more fringe players possibly getting a chance.

The Dutchman will be pleased that Joe Gomez stayed at the club, as Virgil van Dijk, Jarell Quansah and Ibrahim Konate are the only other quality centre-back options at his disposal.

Now, with Curtis Jones on the road to recovery from an injury, it looks as if another Liverpool midfielder is having issues away on international duty…

Alexis Mac Allister is suffering with a muscle injury on Argentina duty

The Reds’ midfield three of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have been in fine form for Arne Slot, as the main anchor point of his side.

However, it appears as if using the same midfield three in all of the club’s opening three games has backfired on the Dutchman.

According to Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni (as per TYC Sports), Mac Allister is suffering with muscle load and is in pain at this moment in time but should play vs Chile on Friday.

With over a week until the players return for the Premier League there’s still plenty of time for him to recover, but the worry now is that he potentially makes it worse.

Who could replace Mac Allister if he’s not right?

Liverpool aren’t blessed with a huge amount of replacements at this moment in time.

The obvious one would be Curtis Jones but it all depends on where he’s at, while Harvey Elliott could do a job dropping slightly deeper into midfield if needed.

Wataru Enzo could be deployed in the deeper role and Ryan Gravenberch could be given a more freer role further forward, though you don’t wanna disrupt his flow in the 6 role.

Nottingham Forest have done well so far this season but they’re not on the level of a Manchester City or even a Manchester United, so there’s not the desperate need to be full strength.
