3 – Improving what they already have

The Argentine manager’s development of young talent is not exactly a mystery – Liverpool and Manchester United can attest to that, having acquired the fruits of Southampton’s labours in the form of Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Luke Shaw and Morgan Schneiderlin. So rather than spending vast sums of money, it was an infusion of youth that Dr. Pochettino has prescribed for his Spurs side. After incorporating Ryan Mason and Harry Kane into the squad last season, it is Eric Dier and Dele Alli who have become fixtures for Spurs in this campaign and the pair have even made their England debuts in the past few months.

Adding that quartet and Alderweireld to already excellent players like 23-year-olds Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela and midfield dynamo Moussa Dembélé has resulted in a young and physical squad of excellent depth with a bright future. I would even go as far as to disagree with my TBR colleague Darren Choong and anoint them as the team with the best core going forward, rather than the nonetheless still impressive third in this category.
