Juan Mata ostracised – Mourinho wasted little time tin ostracising; and then selling, Juan Mata during his second Chelsea tenure and the classy Spanish playmaker must be fearing the arrival of the Special One once more.

Mata simply does not fit into the profile of a Mourinho player and his inability to compete physically reflects this perfectly. Mourinho would have to change the fundamental basis of his approach to the game for Mata to have any sort of long-term future at the club.

Pace and engine – Willian and Michael Essien epitomise Jose Mourinho’s approach to the game. Despite their obvious technical ability, the overwhelming strengths of these two players lie in their physicality and the former Real Madrid boss demands so much from his players that it is hard to see how players like Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger will fit into his high energy system.

Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay have the pace and power that Mourinho dreams off in his forward players and both of the youngsters are suited nicely to the fast transition game that Mourinho has built his sides around.
