Roy Carroll
The man that will always be known for that ‘goal that never was’ at Manchester United, where he dropped Pedro Mendes’ shot from half-way over the line, Roy Carroll has had a well-travelled footballing career. Despite spells at Wigan, West Ham United and Derby County, the Northern Ireland goalkeeper will always be best known for his time at United.
Faced with stiff competition from French star Fabien Barthez and current Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard in his few years at Old Trafford, Carroll managed to gain both a Premier League and FA Cup winners’ medal, producing 38 clean sheets in 72 games.
After spells abroad at Danish side Odense and Greek side Olympiakos, Carroll returned to England to ply his trade for Notts County alongside Stead. It seems like the howlers of Carroll’s past continued on his second spell in England though, with an astonishing error against Cambridge United when, with ball in his hands and under no immediate pressure, he proceeded to kick it against an attacker’s back and the ball looped harmlessly into the net.
It’s genuinely so bad I’ve felt inclined to put the link below.
