Clinton Morrison

Clinton Morrison is perhaps a less successful example of a player in the top flight working his way down the Football League as his career has elapsed, as his time in the Premier League with Birmingham City never really got going.

Across three seasons in the early 2000s with the Blues, Morrison managed 14 goals in 87 league matches, before returning to the Championship to the club where he first made his name – Crystal Palace. Although not strictly a Premier League side, Morrison hit the ten goal mark in all seven of his seasons at Selhurst Park, hitting his 100th goal milestone in his last season with the London club.

His Exeter City reign, much like his one at Birmingham, has failed to truly kick off. In a side that are accustomed to finish around mid-table, Morrison hasn’t been able to add the firepower to push them further towards the play-offs, only hitting the back of the net once in his two years at the Grecians. With the ex-Republic of Ireland international approaching 37 years old, it’s to be seen if he’ll continue for another year with Exeter; yet with younger and fresher forwards (Ollie Watkins, Alex Nicholls and Jayden Stockley) leading the line, it’s tough to see a space for Morrison.
