Surprisingly, Argentine forward Lionel Messi is only the third-most followed footballer on Instagram with just under 40 million people keeping an eye on his account. Last season, Messi netted 10 goals in 13 Champions League appearances, which meant he shared the tournament’s golden boot with his Barcelona team-mate Neymar, and Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo. After securing his fourth Champions League medal the Argentinian celebrated with his son Thiago, who was seen holding the famous European trophy in a picture that attracted over two million likes. Gareth Bale; another of La Liga’s biggest stars, has over 15 million followers on his Instagram account and is another behind the scenes looks into the life of one of Real Madrid’s top performers.
