1st – Savio Nsereko
Price: £9 million
Apps/Goals: 10/0

There was really no question about who West Ham’s worst January signing – it’s a man who has been described by some as one of the worst signings in Premier League history. Wasting £9 million on a player who barely made a starting appearance for a club whose financial situation wasn’t exactly the greatest… it was unforgivable. Introducing Savio Nsereko. A teenage prodigy from the second tier of Italian football. The world was supposedly at his feet following some terrific performances for the Germany youth teams. But when it came to performing at Upton Park, there was absolutely nothing there apart from vague glimpses of flair with no end product. £9 million should entitle you to a bit more than that. My best memory of Nsereko was him taking a free kick that was sort of okay, it went in the right direction at least. But on the ball he was a physical liability and could not handle Premier League life in the slightest. It turns out that the West Ham technical director at the time knew  personally and could’ve perhaps acted as the catalyst of this somewhat shady deal. Savio now plies his trade in Bulgaria after spells in Israel, Kazakhstan and third tier Germany – a descent into the wilderness that mimics the likes of Freddy Adu.
