Eric Dier
An invaluable contributor to Spurs’ mean defence has been Eric Dier. The buzzword for the man from Cheltenham via Lisbon is ‘versatility’.
Equally adept at playing in the heart of defence or as a holding defensive midfielder, Dier has often been the ballast and lynchpin of the mean Tottenham defence – the best in the division.
The rumoured £4 millon that Spurs shelled out for the then 20-year-old in 2014 looks incredible business with Dier already racking up over fifty appearances for the North London outfit, and this season especially looking assured and comfortable playing for a side second in the league.
His ability to play in midfield or defence gives Dier an advantage when competing for a place in the England side, and I feel he is more than worth a place in the squad.
Ryan Mason
Away from the headline grabbers such as Kane or Alli, there are other young English Spurs players who have been earning their stripes this season and last. Ryan Mason is among these players, and has even worn the captain’s armband on occasion.
The somewhat injury prone playmaker has a solitary England cap, and if his progression into the Spurs side continues, and he stays free of injuries he is sure to add to this tally. Perhaps not a England starter of the future, but expect Ryan Mason to be in and around the set up.
