Are these Arsenal’s top five options to replace Arsene Wenger if he leaves next year?

Thierry Henry

Arsenal fans do not need reminding of their top goal-scorer’s history with the club. Thierry remains arguably the most popular of the Arsenal “legends” and is probably the most likely former Gunner to become an Arsenal manager in the future.

With Patrick Vieira under the watchful gaze of Manchester City, and Dennis Bergkamp seemingly firmly in Ajax’s clutches, it is Henry most likely to make the jump from ex-player to manager.

This would probably be further down the line however, with Henry currently a valuable member of the Sky Sports punditry team, and lacking much managerial experience at all.

Henry; just like Ryan Giggs at Manchester United, would need some experience in a coaching capacity before making the leap most Arsenal fans think is his destiny.

Steve Bould

Ex-Arsenal defender and current assistant manager to Arsene Wenger, Bould has already been under the guidance of the Frenchman since Pat Rice retired in May 2012. Naturally, he could take the step up when Wenger eventually vacates his managerial berth, potentially swapping it for a position in a boardroom capacity, offering guidance when needed.

Bould would know all the players and would offer a smooth transition with as little disruption as possible. Whether this is the direction the fans would want is a different question, as Bould would not offer the same excitement as if the club announced a Simeone or Henry, for instance.

In order to attain a fresh fear factor, Arsenal would want to appoint someone who can compete with the very best. For now though, Arsenal have Arsene Wenger in charge, who has another season to prove he is the man to take Arsenal back to the top.
