Are these Arsenal’s top five options to replace Arsene Wenger if he leaves next year?

Ronald Koeman

The 53-year-old Dutchman has been in England as the manager of Southampton for the last two seasons, leading the Saints to their highest ever league position. The former Dutch international has recently been confirmed as the man to take up Everton’s previously vacant managerial post next season, taking over from Spaniard Roberto Martinez. This decreases the chances of Koeman replacing Wenger next May but there have been shorter tenures in football.

Koeman would offer Arsenal guaranteed experience and an ability to get the best out of his players. Through signings such as Sadio Mane, Koeman has proven an ability to sign quality players and work the transfer market well.

There will be question marks however, over whether Koeman would be an improvement on Wenger, and whether he can compete against the wits of Guardiola and Mourinho.

Joachim Löw

The manager of the German national team since 2006, and a World Cup winning manager to boot, Löw is currently guiding Germany through Euro 2016 in France. As one of the favourites, he could end the month as a World Cup and Euro winning manager, holding both trophies concurrently.

Arguably then having accomplished everything on the international stage, Löw could turn his attention to another challenge, in club football.

Arsenal would have an experienced manager and a winner. He would be able to educate and improve the German players at Arsenal, and possibly persuade more to join. He may have less club football experience than a figure such as Koeman a Simeone, but someone like Löw could offer something fresh and different, allowing Arsenal to become a fierce force, like the Germans are now.
