Are these Arsenal and Sunderland players more important for country than club?

Paddy McNair

McNair may have only played 46 minutes in France last summer, but has already played 90 minutes at the start of Northern Ireland’s World Cup Qualification campaign and is earmarked by Michael O’Neil as having a bright future.

The former Manchester United man made just three Premier League starts for Manchester United last season and just two for Sunderland this term since moving from Old Trafford on a permanent basis. McNair’s fledgling appearances for United under Louis van Gaal were as a centre back, but the 21-year old is developing as a central midfield player.

His new boss David Moyes has even suggested he could be a No 10 in the future. Regardless of which position he grows into, he looks set to be an important member of O’Neil’s Northern Ireland’s outfit.
