Liverpool confirmed on Thursday that an agreement has been reached with RB Salzburg for the transfer of Takumi Minamino on January 1.

Reports began to surface about a possible move in the aftermath of the two team’s recent meeting in the Champions League.

Liverpool have acted swiftly over the Japanese international, and it is claimed the deal will cost just £7.25 million – which was the value of his release clause (BBC Sport).

Given how the current transfer market can be, the Reds have seemingly secured themselves a bargain, with Minamino having enjoyed a superb 2019/20 season so far over in Austria.

With Liverpool having got their man, it surely now suggests that the club won’t be moving for someone who has long been linked with an Anfield switch..

TBR’s view – No move for Werner now?

With Minamino confirmed, it is highly likely Liverpool will not be moving for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

The Germany international has been linked several times with a move to the Reds, including early this summer (Mirror), but arguably there is now little to no need for the 23-year-old, who has an incredible 23 goals in 24 appearances this term, and 84 in 138 games for the club.

What will likely happen is that Klopp now makes Divock Origi the direct backup for Roberto Firmino, with new signing Minamino to compete for game time out wide along with Xherdan Shaqiri.
