Are Celtic preparing for life after Scott Brown?

Celtic captain Scott Brown is reportedly a target of Australian outfit Western Melbourne.

The new A-League side are said to want a marquee signing ahead of their first season in the top tier.

Last week The Scottish Sun reported that Brown had rejected one offer from the club, thought to be their opening offer.

It is thought that Melbourne will return with revised terms, meaning Celtic may not be out of the woods just yet regarding Brown’s future.

The Sun do go on to say that Brown fears playing a bit-part role next season if he stayed, and that he is likely to bide his time before making a decision.

Celtic’s latest links suggest that they feel there’s a chance he could leave.

Trapp would be a direct replacement

As reported by The Scotsman, Brendan Rodgers is eyeing up a move for MLS star Wil Trapp.

Trapp is a defensive midfield player, who has been capped 11 times by the USA.

He plays for the Columbus Crew and has made 177 senior appearances for the club.

If Celtic’s interest in Trapp is legitimate, then it would certainly suggest that they are indeed preparing for life after Brown.

Trapp is a disciplined player who rarely gets forward. He carries very little attacking threat, as evidence by the two goals he’s managed for Columbus.

He’s a player that would provide protection for the back four, and potentially force Brown out of the door.
