Aston Villa’s hopes of landing Said Benrahma might be about to improve, with Brentford seemingly eyeing a possible replacement for the talent.

According to RMC Sport (via GFFN), the Bees are in ‘advanced talks’ with Ligue 2 side Amiens to sign Saman Ghoddos.

The Iranian international could soon be announced by the Championship club, which could potentially open the door for Benrahma to leave Griffin Park.

Ghoddos is a versatile forward capable of playing on both wings, suggesting that he would be a direct replacement for Benrahma.

Aston Villa are one of several teams said to be battling for the Algerian trickster’s signature this summer, with the Midlands club reportedly (The Sun) looking to execute a double raid on Brentford for him and Ollie Watkins.

Benrahma’s future is in some doubt after Brentford failed to secure promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

The 25-year-old is arguably a level above the Championship, and is highly likely to depart.

TBR’s View – Villa must act quickly

With Brentford seemingly preparing for life after Benrahma, Aston Villa have to make sure they are primed to swoop.

There is plenty of clamour surrounding the ace and rightly so, but Villa can make a statement of intent by landing him ahead of the competition.

Dean Smith could certainly use some extra firepower in the wide areas, with Anwar El Ghazi and Trezeguet not the most consistent last term.

Moving for Benrahma – supposedly valued around £25 million by Villa (Mirror) – could also allow Jack Grealish to play as a number eight more regularly.
