3, Jorge Jesus
Jorge Jesus is a name that was linked with the Anfield job prior to Jurgen Klopp’s appointment earlier this season, and it is not difficult to see why. He is a manager that has proved himself at Benfica and holds the club record for most titles (10), and has a reputation for attractive football which would be something the Arsenal board would be looking to carry on.
Jesus favours a 4-1-3-2 formation which is something that the current Arsenal squad are familiar with. Since leaving Benfica last summer and signing a new three-year deal at Sporting, he has enjoyed a fine record. In fact, his first game for his new club saw his Sporting side beat his former side Benfica 1-0.
Much like De Boer and Bergkamp, he has not proved himself in one of the three major European leagues but his achievements are impressive nonetheless.
He had a win percentage at Benfica of 70% from 321 games, he has also won 65% of his games at Sporting from a total of 43.
Managerial Honours
Benfica- Primeira Liga 2009-10, 2013-14 and 2014-15.
Conclusion
Arsene Wenger has been an admirable manager since joining in 1996 and as a result, there is clearly apprehension of the task that will await the Arsenal board when the French manager finally departs. It is important not to forget that when Wenger was mentioned as full time successor to the already dismissed Bruce Rioch, he was relatively unknown to many. This summer could be the right time to part ways, as with the continued unrest of fans, Wenger faces the unenviable task of trying to get them back on side, something that he does not look like achieving any time soon.
